Fun Fabrics and 10 cents books!
Me and my roomie Garison decided to do a little decorating this weekend! Our first project was the shelves on opposite sides of the fireplace in the living room. The "sky blue" paint on the background walls of the shelves really brightens the room and it also accomplishes drawing the eye in to the contents of the shelves-- which prior to our re-vamp consisted of too many clashing colors and polka dots! Luckily, we already had a collection of black frames and various shelve filler-uppers, but we really wanted to ad some books! We decided to pay a visit to a used bookstore on Hillsborough street and were prepared to pay roughly 15 to 20 bucks... but to our pleasant suprise there was a collection of books on "clearance" outside that were only 10 cents each! We were so excited we each grabbed an arm full and did not even spend more than a couple dollars!
Our second project arised as we were in the garage searching for shelve-filler canidates... Garison had a black frame laying around-- and she came up with a vision of picking out a fabric to staple in the frame and pairing it with some black frames on the wall over the couch. Saturday morning we headed over to a neat little fabric store off US-1 and fell in love with a particular pottery-barn inspired fabric. I love the way it matches the wall color so it almost gives the illusion that the wall is painted if you are glaring at it from a distance.
Our initial impression of the fabric store was overwhelming. There were sooooo many fabrics to choose from. Some were really beautiful-- and $50 a yard! We steered clear of the silks section-- and I was happy to find the perfect fabric to cover the little square pillow that has been sitting in my closet. Since I am clueless when it comes to needles and thread, Garison is going to take it home nextweekend and put her sewing skills to work for me
One of the first things you see when you walk up the stairs into our townhouse is the little dining area between the kitchen and living room. For this wall we decided to use a round mirror and more pictures. We are thinking about adding more above it-- but think it works great for now!
And last but not least-- corks! I really wanted to fill up a glass container with wine bottle corks, unfortunately me and the roomies aren't really the wine-o's you'd have to be to fill a tall glass container with wine corks, BUT thanks to target you can get a box full of them for $4.99!
